Duran Duran is coming to Revel on 8/25...

Those are the facts. Revel. Ovation Hall. Saturday, August 25th. 9pm. No word on an opener. That one is for the forum. That's all you need to know if you want to attend the Duran Duran concert on that day in Atlantic City.

But...I'm going to take a second to indulge myself in a rant. You can stop reading now if the above information is all you require.

It's Duran Duran. Yeah, I know. Say what you will, but I have been a Duranie since the age of 10. That's 30 years or as long as the anniversary of their album "Rio" this year. Yeah, of course, I lost them for a little while back when Simon married Yasmin and during the Big Thing era, but I always came back.

Even if you don't like the band, other non-Duranies I have known and heard of have been converted after their shows. Their frontman, Simon, always makes sure there is a party-like atmosphere with lots of high-energy.

So, here's the deal...someone either at Revel or in the Duran camp has obviously lost their minds.

They want $150 for floor seats, $95 for mid-orchestra and $75 for the mezzanine. Are they kidding? Do not make me call my first loves "relics" or "has-beens" who do not deserve this kind of money...

This bites my butt because, as I have always said...my money in A.C. is reserved for gambling.

In the past, I have paid ridiculous amounts to see them, having done the Fan Club VIP route many times. My husband and I followed them up and down the east coast back in 2005 when all original five band members were together. We schlepped to New York for the Broadway run of their album as well. I love the obscure songs that most people don't know and have met the band on several occasions. And I even got to prove to one of my nay-sayer uncles, who ridiculed them in my youth, that they actually do play their own instruments and would have longevity past the year of 1985.

Now, I'm just annoyed. Also, I can't believe that they did not go with general admission at Revel for the floor. Some of their best shows at Borgata and House of Blues in A.C. have all been general admission. I spent the last one on Halloween at about what would have been second row. Duran hat on, activist or not, I will fight you to the death to get up front.

I'm angry so I'm gonna say it -

"Boo, Man UTD. Simon loves you so now I want you to lose!" (Not really. That was me just being childish.)

I'll probably end up forking over the money to see them in the end. It's going to be impossible for me to be in A.C. on a Saturday anyway WITH Duran playing and not go.

I really just think that their price point is ridiculous and wanted to get it out. Now, I'm going to eat a whole bunch of food for lunch...which will include too much chocolate.

This has been my childish, 40-year-old teenage rant. Thank you.

Thanks rship -

Yep, that's how they got their name. Thank you, Jane Fonda. It started with 2 young boys from Brum with a dream.

Not my only quest, not even one of my more important ones, but annoying enough to write a long post about, I suppose.

Thanks for that anyway. Well-appreciated.

One more thing...

The movie itself is a little raunchy at times. As are the band's (Simon's) often well-disguised lyrics.

What is The Reflex? Perhaps only a true Duranie knows...a little too well.

Ahem.

if you are going to go anyway, you might as well buy the tickets today, during the pre-sale period, to ensure you get the best seats. PM me if you need the code, although i imagine it was in the e-mail you got.

as for who sets the prices, that probably has more to do with the revel than the artist. generally, performers love playing casinos because it's guaranteed revenue. they don't have to sell a single ticket. that's all managed by the casino. and usually they get paid the same regardless of whether the place is packed or they play to a half-empty house.

and so the price printed on the ticket is almost insignificant, because a large number of concertgoers don't pay anything at all; they are comped. then again, if you're a fan or a scalper, the the price printed on the ticket has much more meaning.

Oh, just one more thing...

The videos for The Chauffeur and Girls on Film (uncut versions) may be worth a look. I'm sure they must be somewhere on YouTube. I do imagine some of the boys will not mind.

Video aside, The Chauffeur is actually one of my favorites of all their songs really.

Sorry...once I get started...

"They want $150 for floor seats, $95 for mid-orchestra and $75 for the mezzanine."

To be honest, that's NOT BAD for Duran Duran concert! That's actually less than these so-called pop stars like Gaga, Beyonce, etc. want for one ticket at The Hall. These subpars want $200-300 for floor seats and they suck!

I had an opportunity to see James Brown in NYC the year before he died and I didn't go.

So, now, if I get the chance and the money, I go to these shows.

I say, see them now because they're dying out.

I saw Van Halen at Madison Square Garden two months ago. Nosebleeds and they still kicked tail. Worth it.

I saw Prince at Madison Square Garden in NYC 2010, I paid $200 for ONE TICKET, row nine, floor. Five encores. Worth it.

Saw KISS at Mohegan in 2010 for 101.50. The show was over THREE HOURS! Worth it.

But, if you want to get an idea as to what the seating will look like, go on YouTube. They just had BeYawnce there, and the floor seats are wicked close. Like, I can smell your private parts close.

Here's some examples from the BeYawnce show:

UK -

Just saw it...

Thanks for the help. I'm actually going to wait this one out a little. If I get burnt with no ticket in the end, there's always Mohegan Sun, Ntelos in Virginia or Pittsburgh. Those are the other local options without jetting off to England for their part in the Olympic opening concert. Yeah, sure...

A Duranie always gets her ticket! I gave several away on past tours to true fans because I did not like the location of the comped seats or as a trade for some decent bootlegs.

I thought it was up to the venue, as you said. Well, I guess I could see if they want to give me any comps for it. The House of Blues comps were undesirable in the past, I wonder what Revel will do, if any. I may not love the place, but I have tried it on several occasions. Now's their chance to change my mind...for the promise of a forum review...

Thanks again, UK. I need to stop going up and asking strangers "Are you UK from the forum?" True story.

Thanks BeDrinkable -

Actually, I have seen them quite often, it's really just the proximity to a casino where they will be playing that is my real beef.

I put that much money, actually more, into machines for a possible return. I do not want to pay that much for a ticket at a show held in a casino (resort, whatever).

I have paid, sadly, sick amounts of money to see them as well as U2, Elton John and countless others. In A.C. - the most I would want to pay for a ticket would be around the $75 range.

Again, also very, very disappointed that it will not be a general admission show. I do believe that many of their fans like those the best. Yeah, I promise not to shove anyone out of the way.

Bass God sweat is too salty anyway. (Yuck.)

I saw the Beyonce (I did see your deliberate spelling) pictures and see what you mean by close. Way too much information on that one picture. Keep the nasty bits under wraps, perhaps? LOL...

I saw them a few years ago at the House of Blues. We had general admission had had a BLAST!. I don't think I would want to see them if I couldn't walk around and people watch and dance a bit. My wife loves these guys. Back in the 80's she named her cat Rio!

The concert was one of the best I ever went to
