Wondering if Southwest will fly into ACY?

The merger of Airtran and Southwest should be pretty well complete within the year, and here's hoping that Southwest ends up not dropping ACY. Saying that the AC market is covered because Southwest already flies into PHL is ridiuculous.

Hopefully the South Jersey Transportation Authority can *encourage* Southwest to keep ACY as part of its route network. Maybe we can avoid having to fly into Atlanta first all of the time as well, like was the case with Airtran.

I know most of you regulars in the forum are part of the drive-in market, but AC will not prosper again if those of us outside of that market can't get there easily or as cheaply as flying to Las Vegas.

Any word or rumors locally about Southwest's plans? I search online when possible for news, but I can't seem to find much...

Air tran flies in and out of ACY, and they are also the airline that SWA acquired, so why would the OP be confused?

The original announcement of the Southwest/Air Tran merger said that they would keep all markets. They did not plan on dropping any cities. Not sure what has happenend with their plans since then. I have looked for updates, but I think they will make one grand announcement when everything has been mapped out.

Unfortunately, my feeling is that ACY may be on the chopping block....although it is true that Southwest stated no markets would be initially cut, I think it is more "in the wording". I think that upon the final completion of the merger, the markets that are left will not be cut, but AirTran has already eliminated service to Gulfport in March & will be eliminating service to Tunica in May. Both of those routes were serviced by AirTran as the CET junket flights as is the AirTran flights to ACY. I don't think it is actually the markets that Southwest is not interested in, more the casino junket market which Southwest does not do.

I hope they don't eliminate the market. Right now one of the biggst issues AC has (besides outrageous hotel rates) is that you can't get there from here. My GF moved here from AC and would like to go back to visit old friends on occasion. However, neither AirTran nor Spirit (which we wouldnt fly anyway) has flights out of Nashville. Granted, we could fly into PHL, but it's not really worth the extra hassle, cost & time of either getting a rental car or taking the train.
