First Time in AC: Is the Trop okay? (Sorry it's very long...

Okay, here's the deal. I am going to AC with my sister and my parents on October 21st through October 23rd. My sister is 21 and I am 24. We really want to stay at a hotel that is fun and has a good mixture of both young, hip 20-30 somethings and laid back, down-to-earth 30+ individuals. If this helps at all, we stayed at "The Mirage" in Vegas a few months ago and that hotel was perfect for me, my sister and our parents. I'm interested in finding out if there are any hotels that are comparable to Vegas' Mirage (in terms of atmosphere) in New Jersey's AC. We actually have reservations at the Trop (Havana Tower), however after reading many of the reviews, I am terrified that the rooms are going to be horrible. Of course I thought about the Borgata, but those rates seem to be a bit too outrageous. Although, I'm sure we could come up with the money if we absolutely had too. Sorry this is so long, but I'm desperate. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

P.S. We do have tickets for a show at Ceasar's Palace.

Thanks

Chloe26... If you and your family aren't going to stay at the Borgata, then the Tropicana is the next best option, as far as looking for the crowd that you want. There are plenty of shopping and dining options for your parents in the Quarter, and there are plenty of bars/dance clubs for you and your sister. You will all have a nice time, I'm sure.

I haven't stayed at the Havana Tower at the Trop, but remember that often times the people who have negative experiences review the most, just to spread bad will and to vent. I trust that your hotel experience will be fine; you ARE going to be *outside* of the room, right? lol

When you hit Caesars, I would recommend checking out the Taj Mahal (farther north up the Boardwalk); always a good crowd in there. Don't worry, though, ALL casinos have some mix, especially on the weekends.

Have a good trip... stop stressing yourself out! lol

Bud Dry, thanks for all the great info. I always get a little panicked when it comes to picking a hotel...especially if I don't know the area. I will definitely visit those hotels/casinos that you mentioned. I will also try to stop stressing. lol

Thanks again.

26,whoa,slow down.no need(ever) to get desperate when planning to go to wonderful A/C.take the good reviews and the negative and think you'll see more good.trop. is alot of new and think you will enjoy it,being your there on a weekend it will be alittle more crowded but not really bad this time of year.i see most complaints on trop are about some confusion on the checking in,new tower/old tower.rooms you never know, everyone has different views. what ever, look ahead and plan to have a real good time.A/C is not VEGAS,but then,VEGAS is not A/C.have fun!!!

I agree with the other responses. Trop is where you want to be. With the new Quarter, there is always something going on for your age & your parents. Make a stop at "top of the trop" a bar at the top of the hotel, even if for just one drink and see the view of ac, at nighttime it's pretty cool looking. Also for a different scene than all the other casinos, inside ballys wild west is totally a different look. enter from the boardwalk side to see the canyon scene with the man & the horse, kinda goofy but fun to see. also if you're into it, go to the sheraton (over attached to the convention center) and inside the hotel you can see displayed different shoes & items of miss america's. Pretty interesting shoes, if you see you'll know what i mean. The bar/club comments b4 I agree with. The borgota is where the younger crowd hangs out. the one club they have is always packed, so expect a long line. but you wollnt be disappointed at trop - many options or taj's club.

I would look into Bally's Tower rooms. Bally's has better service, a fantastic indoor pool/spa area (best in AC), and is in a better location - smack in the center of the boardwalk. The Trop has the new Havana Tower - really a big mall - and is overwhelming with it's new size (check-in is always a long wait). It's just not as well-run as Bally's.

You will love the Trop. It has something for everyone. The "quarter" is great. Many shops, restaurants and is very beautiful. That would be my choice to stay in AC. The rooms can't be horrible, it is a new tower.

I believe the Trop is the best place for you to stay. ENJOY.

Thanks for all the great help. I'm finally starting to get over my initial apprehension. Sounds like the Trop should be pretty fun for all of us.

Let me join in with some specifics about the Trop . First of all the Quarter is all specialty shops . Not what you expect at a regular mall . The Lingerie shop and pet items stores are really nice . At that end of the Quarter you enter the Casino . There are two lounges at the entrace . Tango's which has a good piano bar . Catch Beth Tinnon, a sultry blond singer with a penchant for sprawling out on the piano while her accompanist plays the Standards . The other bar is across the way with a lounge band and a small dance floor . These are both great for the parents ; ) There are several hipper spots in the Quarter : Cuba Libre' Rum Bar , Ri Ra Irish Pub w/ a live band , TSOP a "Philly Soul" bar with a dance floor and live entertainment , Missles and Red Square both NYC style dance clubs , and Rose's a kareoke club . There is an entrance to downstairs just past Tango's Bar . Down there is Hooters , and Firewaters ,a large casual bar with a DJ . The problems with check in was because of the new help and new computer programs . They should be OK by now . I always try to check in a bit earlier or an hour or so later than the official starting check in time .

Caesar's has an indoor connection to Bally's Wild West which has a great buffet and a casual Margarita bar with a live country band . There is usually a hip young crowd at Bally's (upstairs from the Wild West) Blue Martini . It has live bands and a happy hour ( 4-7 ?). But the best Martinis ( Big ,Strong and Delicious but $12.50 ea. ) are at the Eden lounge at Harrah's which has live top 40 show bands , and a fun all age crowd on the dance floor . The best specialty drinks are at the Dizzy Dolphin , a small lounge with live music at the Hilton .

The House Of Blues entertainment complex at Showboat is great . And easy to get drinks at the slot machine . Give the waitress a buck a drink atfter 11PM and she'll make sure you don't run dry . We wil be at the House of Blues on Sun the 22nd to See The Outlaws , a Southern country rock band from the 70's . Then we'll hit the dance club or the HOB slot bar .

I stayed in the Havana Tower in January--it was great. I especially liked the restaurant/bar with the old Buick parked out front.

One last piece of advice for your trip next week: any figure skating fans in your group? Skate America takes place in Boardwalk Hall next week (competitions are Thursday 20th thru Saturday 22nd). Practice session tickets should still be available through Ticketmaster for $5.00. Get up-close and personal with world-class skaters and coaches.
