Hi:

I am from Bogota Colombia and I can tell you that you are 80% percent OK. San Andres was first and Island occupied by English pirates and traders who brought African slaves. So even though San Andres is a Colombian island, English is the native and first language of the island. However, not everyone working for the hotels and resorts are native people, but you could always find someone who speaks English. Most of the personnel working at the hotels are bilingual. Colombian authorities have recognized the cultural identity of the island and officially promotes bilingual education. So do not worry because speaking English in San Andres is actually an advantage.
