Shenzhen for the day

Hi there I am thinking of going to Shenzen for the day from Hong Kong as friends of mine say that the shopping in Shenzhen is even better than Hong Kong. If this is true, can anyone recommend some good markets or places to go if I only have a day in the city? thanks so much to anyone who responds!

Depends what you are looking for. for cheap fakes go to Luohu as said above. There are also a lot of shopping malls. Chinese prefer to go to HK for any electronics or luxury brands as it is cheaper in HK.

I wouldn't buy any electronic goods above a USB drive or computer camera in SZ. Chances are they will not last long & will contribute to the waste stream in very short time. SZ is good for fashion clothing, shoes, accessories that you do not expect to last.

I go to hong Kong every year and go twice to Shenzhen. First day, to get measured for clothes, buy handbags, pearls, DVDs, sunglasses, watches, jewellery, silk fabric, etc. We have lunch there. Then go back a few days later to pick up clothes, buy more handbags, pearls, DVDs, sunglasses, watches, jewellery, more fabric, etc and sometimes a new suitcase. I have only been to the Luohu complex where there are 700 shops. We'll be back there in October, and can't wait

Anything that's imported it's much wiser to buy in HK, for anything that's made in China, Shenzhen is much cheaper.

Markets in Shenzhen

Dongmen - shenzhenshopper.com/8-dongmen-market.html - this is a huge area featuring many multi-level malls of wholesale clothing.

Huaqianbei - shenzhenshopper.com/18-huaqiangbei-electroni… - the #1 market in China for electronics, again, it's sprawls out over a massive area.

Louhu Commercial City - shenzhenshopper.com/85-luohu-commercial-city… - Shenzhen's copy market, hugely popular with tourists and people from HK, double check the quality and bargain hard!

There's also several huge shopping malls with retail shopping, like MixC, Coco Park, Shopping Park, Coastal City, Holiday Plaza, KK Mall etc. many of which have western luxury brands ie. Gucci, Prada but also stores like Zara, Levis, H&M, Uni QLO...

Hi There. happy for you to search through my blog. hongkongmissymissy.blogspot.com

There is a section on everything you need to know about Lou Wu, including a list of shop numbers and what they sell. My friends and I have been to each shop recommended or NOT! Have fun! Also, most items comes from Guangzhou and other parts of China where it is manufactured, and that includes Hong Kong! Lou Wu is much cheaper. You only have to tell someone in Hong Kong that you got it in Guangzhou and they give up and ask how much I paid.
