The good news, especially for local people, is that the long delayed Guangzhou to Zhuhai Mass Rapid Transit (or Qing Gui) started operations today. Trains appear to run every 45 minutes. The bad news is that the Gongbei section of the line (and Zhuhai main station) are still far from complete so the train is terminating at Jinding - conveniently renamed "Zhuhai North" . However there are express buses running from GongBei & Jiuzhou Port to the station. A first class fare is 44 RMB & a regular economy fare is 36 RMB, which compares favourably with the 68 RMB bus fare. Today every pensioner in Zhuhai was out to see the train.

Thanks for this news, Zhuhai - once I get the next round of HK/mainland visas sorted I'll toddle on over to check it out!

Thanks also for the news. Is that fast train or subway?

It is an elevated light rail - 200 kph so not a "fast train". It connects to the GZ Metro (subway) at GZ Nan Zhan.

Thanks. So it's like trains using electricity.

I actually took the train today: 49 minutes vs 2 hours for the bus BUT it then took me 1 hour to get to my destination in Tian He by Metro - close to the 2 hours it would have taken me by bus.
