Direct bus from Bangkok to Siem Reap

I just would like to post this to give other travellers some more information about on land transportation from Bangkok to Siem Reap. and i hope this would help somehow.

(i just dont know where else can i write this ;p)

Nowadays the thai government bus company provide direct bus from Bangkok to Siem Reap,

which you can book the ticket directly at the Mochit 2 Bus Station , on the first floor, or through this following website in advance

http://home.transport.co.th/th.html

you can also call to +66 2872 1777 or if u are already use thai sim card : 02 872 1777

you will get the payment code, and you can pay for the booking at 7-11 convenient store (provided everywhere in thailand), then keep the receipt to get the real ticket at the bus station on the departure date.

it costs 750 Baht/ ticket and the bus leaves daily from bangkok at 9:00 AM in the morning.

and from Siem Reap back to Bangkok , the bus leaves at 8:00 AM in the morning.

This option is the best way to avoid all the scam at the border, well, generally, the tourists who buy the ticket from agencies on Khao San Road have to change the bus at the border and got asked to pay more for some other stuffs. While the government bus has the priority at the immigration board, and if you have some problem with your visas, the staff of the bus will help u figure it out,

at first, you gotta get off at the office where they arrange the visa for you (except thai passengers) the bus stops here about 20 mins, and they also serve the passengers a meal box in the bus. Then, 8-10 mins after every passengers have to get off at the thai immigration office to get departure stamped, and then you have to walk to the cambodia side to get the arrival stamp, that's where the bus will wait for u.

I saw some tourists who just did the travel by themselves spending so much time to search for a bus or a transport from the border to siem reap, so i felt good that i took this bus directly from bangkok. if i could get a chance to travel to Cambodia again, i would definitely take this bus again.

Besides the BKK-SR route, they also provide to route from Bangkok to Phnom Penh, which costs 900 Baht, the bus leaves at 8 AM in the morning as i remember. and For other international routes , theres a bus provided from Bangkok to Vientiane , Laos , and Pak Se as well.

DIRECT BUS FROM SIEM REAP TO BANGKOK

I hope to finally shedding a light on the trip from Siem Reap to Bangkok via a "State Bus" run by Transport Inc.

Since the trip is coming from Cambodia the name of the company that runs this trip is NATTAKAN (Cambodia) CO., LTD. it is the official partner if Transport Co. Their NEW office is located in the old market in Siem Reap, along Sivatha Road, very near in KFC restaurant. This is also the place where they park the bus and wait for the passengers.

NOTE:

They no longer park the bus and sell tickets at THE EMPRESS HOTEL, no, not anymore.

The fare is $28 which includes a free pick up from your hotel, a cookie chip & 3 in 1 instant coffee (but no hot water and cup provided), a meal for lunch and water.

The bus leaves at 8AM. You can choose a seat no. but practically can seat anywhere, the bus was not full at the time I had this trip, were practically just 22. I strongly suggest not to sit in the last row if you don't want to absorb the smell of the urine or at least make sure the door of the toilet is always closed for everybody's sake!

I can say this is the safest, hassle free bus ride going to Bangkok from Siem Reap. They will give you an ID and hang it around your neck with a label "TRANSPORT CO. LTD". Once in the border a uniform man will accompany you where to go and wait for everyone.

We arrived at Chatuchak bus station around 4pm. Also note that, Chatuchak bus station is the arrival area and Mo Chit bus station is the departure area. Its in the same location though. So don't get surprise if you left mo chit bus station and arrived at chatuchak.

I hope this infos will be a big help for everyone!!!

Thanks ..... Last time we caught the mini bus from Koh Chang which went via a cafe and they tried to scam extra US$20 per person. Not nice. We are returning in Nov and plan to use this service. How far in advance can you book?

@ bjml9901

as a word of advise apply for a e-visa before you enter Cambodia. You will save time and nerves....if you have a e-visa then you dont need to listen to the locals, you have a visa already.

BUT if you insist on standing in line for hours and holding up the rest of the bus to get your visa-on-arrival, then at least remember one thing, The only OFFICIAL Cambodian visa is obtained from the Cambodian side. NOT the Thai side

E-visas cost $25US .....$5 more for a processing fee

We took the aircon coach which now runs regularly between Bangkok/Siem Reap and the fare we paid was USD$28 one way from Siem Reap in April2013, inclusive of water and small lunch pack. The bus is a nice big bus with reclining seats and a toilet at the back of the bus, and the journey time was about 6 hours from end to end. The biggest problem with this journey is the Cambodia border crossing at Poipet where we had to get off the bus and walk with our luggage all the way from Cambodia side to Thai side, probably about 200-300m with lots of sleazy casino/hotel between the two borders.

Below are the details of the journey we took from Siem Reap to Bangkok (but I am unable to paste a photo of the actual bus we took, it is quite a nice modern coach & aircon works) :-

Day before: book your seat for USD$28 on the bus and fill in custom/immigration forms at Siem Reap Bus agent (diagonally opposite Raja Angkor restaurant)

0730 Siem Reap Bus agent sent motorbike taxi to pick up our large suitcases, motor fees already included (we chose to walk from Somadevi Angkor hotel which is 5 minutes away)

0800 Aircon bus depart from Siem Reap Bus agent office and head for Poipet, about 2 hours of flat countryside

1030 At Cambodia border, bus driver parked near customs shed and we walked to queue in an office area with lots of locals filling in forms next to us. Very unconfortable area with no air-conditioning so be prepared for a sweaty finger printing session (somehow, the authority scans all 10 fingers when you leave Cambodia but there was no finger printing necessary when we entered the country, only visa fees)

1100 Get back on the bus and it stops short of border so we get down and collect ALL our luggage and walk across no-man's-land to Thai border (it is actually not a long walk if you don't have heavy big luggage, But we were naive and even try to look for toilets at one of the sleazy casino/hotel. Just keep walking and ignore any weird people around, it seems a lawless zone!?)

1130 The Thai customs and immigration office is nice and clean and with air-conditioning, but they make sure you get out quickly. Now wait for bus to clear customs and go to clean toilet on Thai side of border

1200 The bus clears both Cambodia and Thai customs and we are on our way to Bangkok after they collect and distribute small packets of packed lunch and can drinks

1500 After a long journey on mainly express ways, we arrived at Bangkok North bus stationn (Mochit). Do not listen to taxi touters, walk to proper official taxi queue and take a metered taxi to hotel

GOOD LUCK!

Thanks oscar28, we'll be on that bus sometime in August.

I think we'll get one of the porters for the luggage.

Hi Som,

Me and my boyfriend would go to Siem Reap from BKK too. Your website seems very useful, however, we could not read it as it is just in Thai. We tried to change to English, but just the title in English and the content in Thai still. We have no idea which bus. So could you please let us know where? Which bus we could book with?

Thank you so much.

Lana
