Book guide in advance....or not ?

We're traveling to Cambodia in Feb / March next year for the first time and were wondering if it's better to organize a guide for Siem Reap in advance or shall we just wait until we get there. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Canby can be helpful (I like their maps for quick reference), but as Ian mentioned it does have a lot of paid advertising. Take a look at www.travelfish.org for additional information about your trip. And, I agree with the others - wait until you arrive to decide if you want to book a guide.

I really can't see where a description of the South Gate, Angkor Thom or the Bayon would carry anymore of a subliminal message than the site your viewing now.

Gather the information then make an independent, informed decision on whats best for you.

Oh! and have fun

Booking before you arrive increases your cost by about 5x. Interestingly if you are staying in Siem reap town, it is only a 5-10 min tuk tuk or taxi to almost all of the major site. Speak to travellers you meet on the street and ask them if they have any personal recommendations. Siem reap is incredibly easy to get around so no stressing about wasting time is necessary - especially if you are clear on what you want to see/do.
