3 nights in Copacabana, shall we stay on the Sun island?

Shall we spare 1 night or 2 at sun island? Or stay in Copacabana which has better accomodation I assume and take a day trip to Sun island?

We will arrive La Paz around 1PM, so the 1st day is a writeoff.

Thanks!

If you have the chance stay on Sun Island - it is a magical place and much nicer than Copacabana. We stopped at Posada del Inca which wasn't cheap but was a delightful place to stay. This is what I wrote in my review:

"An old hacienda has been converted into a unique hotel with tremendous character.

It is high on the hill above Yumani and a steep, hot climb from the quay. Better to ask to be dropped off at Pilkokayna and visit the Inca ruins there first. The climb is still steep but a lot easier....It is also a lovely walk along the hillside to the hotel. There is a small shop serving cold drinks strategically placed along the path. Leave your bags on the boat to be carried up to the hotel for you.

You enter the Posada through a gateway off the road and immediately step into a different world of gardens, flowers and places to sit. There are two small courtyards and rooms are arranged around these. We had a pleasant large room with an electric convector fire for cold evenings. It was effective although a bit noisy. The furnishings were basic but in keeping with the overall atmosphere of the place. We had two big, comfortable beds with electric blankets. There were extra blankets if needed. The bathroom had a shower but no bath. There were shutters on the windows rather than curtains.

The dining room was off the second courtyard. All meals were provided as part of our package. Breakfasts were papaya juice, eggs and large filling bread cake (excellent). We aren't keen on papaya so next morning pineapple juice was provided for us.

There was no choice at Lunch or dinner. There was soup, main course and desert. All freshly cooked and filling. We enjoyed all the meals we ate there.

Staff were friendly and keen to help.

On our second day we decided we wanted to spend all day pottering on the island and not to have to come back for lunch. we asked for a couple of bread rolls to take with us. This caused great concern - did we want them to put back lunch for us to eat later? Were we sure we didn't want to take meat or cheese to eat with the rolls? We assured them we were happy with just the bread which we ate watching people working in the fields, llamas grazing and donkeys waiting to be loaded up with potatoes to carry back home in the evening.

The island is so quiet. There is no aircraft or traffic noise. All you hear is the sound of birds, insects and donkeys. There is no TV, mobile phone or internet.....enjoy it.

We loved it and were glad to have spent 2 nights here. The Posada was a delightful place to stay - as long as you are not expecting 5* luxury accommodation with all the extras which have become essential to modern travellers."
