Dubai transit

in a few weeks we - family of 4 - are travelling from Gatiwck to Christchurch via Dubai. we only have 2hr 10 mins for transit.

do transit passengers have different queues for security/ immigration to cut time?

Any tips?

Assuming you are in Terminal 3 (flying Emirates) - there will be an x-ray check for carry-ons. No immigration. You may be able to get 30-odd minutes to grab some quick refreshment if you require.

No immigration just a security check - and this seems to be speeding up a lot these past few trips I've done..

You have plenty of time unless your inbound flight is delayed, and if it is and you miss your connection which is highly unlikely, EK will put you on the next available flights that day and if no flight provide you with meals and accomodation until your next available flight.

Just make a note of your boarding gate - this is sometimes though not always displayed on your TV screen when you land, but there are departure info boards dotted all over T3.

You could land in concourse A and have to transfer to B or vice versa - there's a dedicated train connecting the two.

Just follow transit signs.

Do you recommend checking in online? Using baggage drop?

Yes, but make sure you have printed off both boarding passes and that your luggage is tagged all the way to your final destination

I always check in online but dont always print off boarding passes for the return flights and this has never been a problem.

But yes OLCI is best - you don't have to be at the airport until 90 mins before your flights instead of three hours.
