Dubai shopping festival

I'll be staying in Dubai for 2days at the end of Jan 06, is the shopping festival a hectic or great time time to go?

Also want a good hotel about £150 a night for a double that is near to the shopping area.

Staying at the Hilton Dubai Creek over christmas and wanted to stay there but can't get good rates for these dates. Is there another hotel on the creek for a reasonable price, is the creek a nice place to stay.

Sorry for so many questions but this will be my first time there.

Thanks in advance for any information.

There is no specific "shopping area" as such because shopping is mainly mall based, apart from the souks, and they are spread out far and wide. If you are set on moving out of the Hilton, take a look at the following site as it's a map showing the (very) rough locations of hotels and their links. You can research the hotels further from this site at the left there.

A better street map for use with the hotel maps is at

http://www.indexuae.com/Top/Reference/Maps

but it's a bit user unfriendly.

By it's very name, if you like shopping, then Shopping Festival is THE time to be in Dubai.

It does get a bit busy as it's a little like a month long New Year sale.

Keep tabs on it at www.mydsf.com

Good luck with a hotel. No doubt you will be barraged by suggestions - The Taj Palace has been receiving a bit of attention recently. But, in the end, it's your call.

Hmmmm - sneaky Department Of Tourism caught me with that second webby for the street map.

Go to

and click on Map then click on street map link.

Nahhh - not the TA mails, the relief of not having to look after two 12 year olds any more.

S&M BB ... surely not :-)

Lucie, we caught the tail end (so to speak) of the shopping festival in February and enjoyed the mad carnival atmosphere. The kids just thought the world had gone mad and that mum had died and gone to heaven :-) In actual fact the malls were crammed full of people and it was difficult to 'do' any shopping at all and it's totally unlike me to admit defeat when there's shopping to be done, lol. It was an experience though! Maybe hitting the shops earlier in the festival is a better plan :-)
