Buying unlocked phones in Dubai

Anyone know where to get a good price on a basic unlocked phone in Dubai? I coming from the states and the roaming rates are ridiculous so I'd much rather get a phone there that works with some of those prepaid sim cards for local calls. Not looking for anything fancy just something that can make calls.

Thanks in advance for your help

One of my ex partners left hers in a taxi in Dubai a couple of years ago. She picked up a basic phone in Carrefour supermarket at city centre mall for about 30 GBP ( 50-60 US ).

if you have t-mobile, cingular or any other gsm phone, you can just buy a sim-card in dubai and get a local dubai phone number. its much cheaper if you do have any gsm provider in the US.

Thanks both of you for your replies. I think I'm gonna check out Carrefour in Deira and see what I can find. Arigoldfish- forgive me if I'm wrong, I really don't know much about phones, but from past experiences (although not in Dubai) my Cingular phones has not worked with SIM cards out of the country because from what I understood the phones you get with Cingular and other companies are made to only work with their service. Can anyone explain this to me???
