Gay bars and nightclubs

Hello me and my boyfriend will be visiting in May, I know it's a conservative country but I've also been told it's tolerant - so I was checking to see if there was a gay scene in Dubai?

Good gay clubs and bars? I've seen a few YouTube videos of the gay scene in Dubai but not specific to any areas or bars.

Thanks for the help - can't wait to visit.

No, homosexuality is illegal in Dubai

That's not to say gay people don't live in or visit Dubai as they do but they are not visibly open about it

There are no 'gay' clubs or scene as such. You'll be fine if you visit but no open displays of affection and don't advertise the fact you're gay

Hi Andrew

As Hannah has said, it's not gay friendly so be discreet.

Dubai is courteous, but not gay friendly.

Homosexuality is illegal, and any gay bar would be quickly closed and its owners arrested.

I went with my Muslim/Arab husband for Christmas week 2017/2018, and booked a room with a king bed in the Ramada. They would not let us stay unless we got another mattress to put on the floor. I'm sure they knew no one used it, but it gave them cover. In lesser hotels, they would have insisted we get twin beds, or denied us a room altogether.

My husband was careful that we made no open displays of affection. He knows the rules.

Strange, i stayed at dubai marina and was well received in the hotel. I thought of asking for two beds but the clerk realized we were a couple and said: "come on, we can take a king size bed, its ok". And thats what we did. Regarding bars and clubs we did not go but i have a friend living there that said there are gay clubs where only men goes, the only thing is that you cannot kiss there. The guys only switch phone numbers in the clubs.

I guess they don't all follow the same rules. I reserved a king bed and had to either switch room or have an extra mattress brought in. We had a mattress brought in. I'm sure they knew it was never used, but we had to play their game.

I believe it's also what level of hotel you're staying at.

The higher-end hotels realize that making gay couples jump through hoops is bad business. I've never had issues in Dubai, but then I've always stayed at the top tier properties.

Well, top tier was $25,000 per night and we couldn't afford that. We had to settle for the Ramada in Al Barsha. The were nice enough.

Radisson Blu Hotel in Dubais Media City has a gay & lesbian night called Barcode on Fridays. Was visiting Dubai and was informed about it through some residents. You'll be surprised it's even allowed but it seems the country is getting more relaxed now. Have fun!

It's illegal so not getting any more relaxed. It's also not advisable to post any information like that on a public forum.
