Is my itinerary ok?

Hi folks

My wife and I (both 40) will be in LPQ from 27th June to 30th June.We arrive at 7 pm on 27th and fly out at 5.25 pm on the 30th of June. We will be staying on the peninsula. After reading the posts and trip reports on the forum I have made a rough itinerary as below

28th June Day 1: Rice Experience at Living Land, Kuang Si Falls, Sunset Cruise on Mekong, Night market

29th June Day 2: Alms giving ceremony, Wat Xieng Thong, Pak Ou caves, Whisky Village, Phralak Phralam Show in the evening

30th June Day 3 (Till 2:30 pm) : morning market, Mount Phousi,Royal Palace museum, Ha Pha Bang Temple, Ban Xienglek and Ban Xangkong villages

Do i need to skip any places mentioned above? I am not sure in which order should we do the sightseeing? After reading the reviews of the Caves, we are not sure whether to visit them?

Any suggestions/comments would be really helpful and would be appreciated.

Thank you and regards

You have included all the usual tourist attractions.

Its very busy though. Depends what type of traveller you are i suppose. I love to soak it up so i am a wanderer, walking the streets, stopping wherever i want.

LP is so pretty and easy to get around. Your itinerary would exhaust me lol but you will certainly see all the sites to tick off your list.

Thanks for the reply. It is just a draft itinerary. I just want to get info from experts like you so that before we go, we exactly know what to do and see. We will decide what to see once we reach there. It will depend on the weather at that time (June end). We might skip the rice field and caves. That will give us some more time.

Cheers

Yes, i think its a good idea to have some flexibility but still see the places you wish to.

Its an amazing country and LP i think is the prettiest city ive been to. Its just got a peaceful lovely feel to it.

Have a great trip :)

My advise is not to overplan it. The nice thing about LP is to explore the old town by walking around, and stopping at some of the temples, sitting down next to the Mekong to have a coffee or beer and watching the world goes by.

With three days only I am not sure I would head to the Pak Ou cave. Head to the Kung Sie waterfall (a must), which will take a few hours (especially if you do not rush), and if you want to do the Rice experience do that as well. But I would then use the remaining time in LP itself.

You can actually combine a few activity. For example do the alm ceremony (please remember that this is not a tourist attraction), and then head to the morning market to see it when it is busy, and even have breakfast there. I ended up walking along the night market every evening, as I like the atmosphere there.

Otherwsie, just walk around. If you rush from place to place you might not enjoy the trip as much as you could. Slow it down.

Thanks mate for the advice. I will plan accordingly. Now I am getting a clear idea about things to do in LPQ. Info from DEs like you really helps.

It might be worthwhile checking if you need to book in advance if you are doing some of the more specialist excursions. We have found a few of the things we wanted to do have been fully booked for a number of days which is disappointing as we have limited time in Laos.

AMGOZ... it would be great if you could stretch your time in Luang Prabang another couple of days - then you could actually relax and get a sense of the peacefulness of Luang Prabang...

If time permits, we would love to more time on LPQ. We might change our itinerary.

I did a sunset cruise a few hours after getting in. Sunset was magical. Same guy was supposed to take me to the falls the next day but was hungover. I did get to the falls with another guy. I watched the monks from my balcony at Pack Rat. It disturbed me to see tourists flashing cameras in monks faces. People will also sell you things to give to the monks. Wish the tourists would give the monks more room. The tablets by the Mekong are great. Been twice and want to go back. Enjoy
