We are just making plans to visit Luang Prabang in April for 3 or 4 nights (our first visit), there is some great reading on this forum. So....could i do a day trip to Nong Khiaw?, Kuang Si Falls looks lovely another day trip? and what sort of clothes should we pack for that time of year? Many thanks for your replies views and suggestions that will make our hoilday a great stay :-)

Tad Keuang Si waterfall is beautiful and there is a great bear rescue centre there. Well worth the trip, it's about 30km outside of LP.

There's a report about it here:

It will be really hot so clothes that are cool and comfortable to wear. Waterfalls are lovely and highly recommend. April can be really busy as it is their new year but depends on your dates

Nong Khiaw is a 4 hours bus ride, one way. Nothing you can do as a daytrip.

Agree with Blurer, Nong Khiaw is not a day trip option, you need at least one night there - and only if you take the bus back.

If you want to take the slow boat back to LP ( which is a great way to travel), I would always suggest two nights in NK. Otherwise you would arrive around lunch time on day two, and leaving for LP the next morning with only half day time to explore the area, which is not worth the whole travel.

Since when? So you can only get there by bus now? This is a very surprising development

Hi Scotsman,

There is the dam being built half way from Lpb to Nongkhaiw at Ban Hadkheep, they said they will finish in 2016 so perhaps low water is causing a temporary halt to boats or maybe construction is more advanced than planned.

Cheers
