Grand Hotel or New Daraphet Hotel

We will be travelling with another couple [50-55yo] to Luang Prabang 11th to 14th May and know it will be hot. we are looking at staying at either the Grand hotel [with pool but out of town] or villa [in town, more convenient but no pool]. Has anyone been to either and can recommend one?

also have 2 full days there. What is a realistic itinery for us??? Have been suggested the caves; a waterfall; & and a couple of wat's

Good call on waiting to see what the day's like!

The last couple of days have been a fair bit cooler, but also overcast skies and a short rain storm yesterday. Spoke to someone who went to the waterfall (for the first time) today and she said there was a fair flow still. Although she had never seen it in full force to compare!

Of course all of Luang Prabang lights up in the sunshine so would be nice for you to have a fair day for the mekong and caves or the waterfall whichever way you choose.

For the dishes, forgot to mention earlier that Tamarind is not open in the evening so if you fancied that option try to get there for lunch or an atmospheric mid-afternoon snack (around 3.30 to 4 o'clock) just before the gongs start up in the nearby wats.

Hi there,

Well, if you are interested in a convenient location then New Daraphet Villa will be the one. I'm not saying this because we are managing the hotel, but because it really is convenient. :)

We are just 3 minutes walk away from the night market and currently we are having a promotion for the low season:

Superior rooms: $25

Deluxe rooms (comes with bath tubs): $40

We'll be posting more photos of our rooms, so hang on there. The company also manages other properties in Luang Prabang, do check us out at http://www.mylaohome.com
