Dubrovnick to Kotor-travel time & hotel without reservations

Arriving in Dubrovnick at 2:30 on the ferry. Is that enough time to hire a car and drive to Kotor. Also is it possible to find a hotel without reservations in Sept.

Yes definately, it should take you about 1 1/2 hours to get to Kotor. We encountered no problems, 10 minutes at most getting through customs (get a green card from your rental agency) and the drive was simple. To get to Kotor go via Risan instead of taking the car ferry as the scenery is stunning.

You should be ok getting a hotel, lots of places were advertising; 'rooms, sobe, zimmer'

Thanks for the info. I was worried so I booked a room at hotel Conte, in Parest, thinking it would be closer to the border. Seems like Parest is a nice town to visit. (info from advisor forum) Did you have any trouble with your car rental from Dubrovnik? Someone warned members not to take a Dubrovnik rent a car into Montenegro. I'm thinking about booking another night and visit Kotor from Parest. Then go further the 3rd day and explore Butva etc. and find another accomodation there. What areas do you suggest. Am leaving in Sept. Thank you again, janiie009

No we had no trouble taking a car from Dubrovnik into Montenegro, we hired through Autoeurope which is an agent for Hertz, (cheaper than hiring directly through Hertz). Just tell them you are taking the car into Motenegro and they will give you a green card, which you will have to show at the border. The drive was really easy, just one road - you can't go wrong. Perast is less than a 10 minute drive from Kotor and Budva about another 30 minutes. We stayed in Dobrota (just outside Kotor) for the whole time and visited other places for the day, rather than moving to different hotels as everywhere we wanted to go was so close it wasn't worth moving hotels. We have hired cars in lots of countries and found this to be the easiest.
