Can anyone recommend a nice city to stop in between Dubrovnik to Split to have lunch or to just break up our drive?
Yes I too want to drive from Dubrovnik to Split in mid Sept.
What are best car deals, small compact is fine & what to see on the way?
What is the best scenic route to take?
Always take old Adriatic highway. Along the way you have millions of break options - Ston (oysters, shells), Neum (Bosnia, short pass through), Opuzen, of the road is Metkovic in Neretva river delta with few miles away Narona (Sv Vid) antic Roman museum, and than hundreds of small restaurants and fisherman villages along the road, Makarska and Omis are larger cities on that trip....
Take the coast road. Ston may be too soon for a stop (but recommended). I stopped at Brela the last time I drove - rather lovely with great views of the mountains from the beach.
Some of the roadside restaurants in Bosnia are quite good and known for their meat. They are also very reasonably priced. Most price in Bosnian Mark, but will accept Kuna.
Thanks guys - we will do the same trip in reverse in September. BTW, Google maps can't cope with Bosnia so takes you on a (non-existant?) ferry, whereas viamichelin gives a route that fits with the suggestions above.
It's a great drive on the coastal scenic route. The Peljesac Peninsula makes a great side trip with the tiny Dignac wine growing area worth a visit.
Hey Travelmagipe kiwi, thanks for the link! Nice one. :)
