old town

Is it better to stay in the old town or walking distance to the old town in august? We are looking at apartments at both and want to be near the restaurants and nightlife and not sure where to stay.

Is one area safer? We are 4 27 yr old girls so just want to make sure an apartment in that area will be safe for us.

At this late point in time, I do believe you may not have as many choices to location. If you stay inside of the old town, you will be closer to the restaurants. However many of the younger folks tend to party until the wee hours, so the noise might be a factor for you. A short walk into town is always nice and often you will be close enough to get in and out within 10 to 15 minutes. However do make sure you ask about the location, does it have steps and if so, how many. Some view apartments can have as many as 200 to 300 steps to reach them and after a evening out it might be a tough walk. Be prepared for town to be very busy in August. Enjoy your time in Dubrovnik.

Dubrovnik is very safe so you don't have to worry about which location you choose from a safety standpoint. In August the Old Town can get pretty crowded (and noisy) so I would suggest staying within walking distance if possible. But, it is also possible to find apartments in the Old Town that are on quiet side streets. I would choose whichever apartment looks the best, is in your price range, and has a good combination of location, number of stairs, and views if any.
