Currency Queries

We'll be going to Dubrovnik for a week at the start of July and had planned on taking Kuna with us rather than Euro as I'm assuming we'd get a better deal on local currency - am I right? Also, we are going on 2 day trips - one to Mostar and one to Montenegro. Will Kuna be accepted in both these places or would we be better to also bring a few Euro?

Exchange Euros in exchange kiosks (and/or ATM) into whatever local currency is anywhere you go.Buying with Euros may be feasible but the rate would differ few percent.

Euro in Montenegro for sure, in Mostar there are no problems with Euro, in Croatia use Kuna. Use the ATM machines to get the Kuna where possible. The exchange rate if you try to buy Kuna in the UK is terrible.

Yes use the ATMS. We exchanged some US money in Gatwick last summer and the exchange was awful. Exchange when you get there!

Re Mostar visit if you are on the West side of the Bridge Kuna will be accepted. On the East side it will be declined. Take Euro but expect change in Bosnian Konvertible Marks use them up in Mostar as they will be refused anywhere outwith Bosnia.

We had trouble using Euro in Mostar 3 years ago.It may have changed since. Medjorge uses Euro as well as the local currency. So just use the atm when you get to Mostar -thats what we did!
