Split Tour

We will be arriving by ship for a one day visit to Split. Are there tour companies at the pier offering a 2 hour tour, If so, does anybody have an idea of cost? We are interested in seeing the old town, palace, the Jewish ghetto and the old synagogue. Are these places within walking distance from the palace. Is it necessary to change currency into Kune, or can entrance fees be paid with credit cards or US dollars?.

There are lots of group walking tours starting from the central courtyard of the Palace that take 90 to 120 minutes. The cost is one penny to $20. A private guide will give you a much more in depth experience as the group tours do not go to the synagogue and rarely inside the Cathedral, which is a must no matter what religion you are. A self tour is easy with the map inside DiscoverSplit or the city map, both free at the tourist office in the middle of the Riva, the waterfront promenade. Whether you come in by tender or if your boat docks directly at a city pier, the walk from the pier to the Riva, which is the south facing "front yard" of the Palace is a 6 minutes. Do a little google searching for private guides if you want to hire one. The cost is around $100. There is no admission to the synagogue, but the Cathedral and Jupiters temple cost 25kn or around $5. Just use your debit card at any ATM on the Riva, there are several right next to the tourist office, to take out kuna....about 5.5 to the US dollar. And dont worry about taking too long. When the ship wants to get you back it will give three very loud blasts on its funnel horn. You can hear it even where I live, 15 minutes from the Riva! Enjoy the Palace!

My family and i went to Split few weeks ago and hired Matt as our guide. He did 3 whole day tours for us. One in Split historic centre and an archaelogical site near by. Another day at beautiful Plitvitce national park which is a must see for any one..Third we went to Hvar with him and had a wonderful time. What a beautiful country and a what a fantastic and knowledgeable guide. You will never be disappointed with Matt Dancevic. You can contact him on matej.t.d@gmail.com. He can give you the cost but we felt it was value for money.. Compared to Serbia, Croatia is not cheap and it now has joined the EU too.
