Hvar and Brac Islands from Split

We've been considering spending a few nights in Split in order to visit the nearby islands of Brac and Hvar.

1.- Is it advisable to stay overnight - how many nights in each island?

2.- Is it better doing day-trips from Split?

3.- Shoud we take a car from Split, or there's no need for a car in the islands?

I'd really apreciate any help.

I think you could do either, go on day trips or spend some time on the islands. To be honest, I think its better to get to the island and hang out there for a day or two and not worry about getting the boat back to Split. In terms of the car, if you like to explore, then the car is a good thing. If you just want to hang out in a place like Bol or Hvar town, then no car would be needed. Its also possible to get to some places on a catamaran directly, so you wouldn't be able to take a car if you are on the catamaran.
