Martha's Vineyard- June 23
This was the 3rd day of our kid-free 4 day/3 night getaway to New England.
We started the day with breakfast in Providence, which is where we were staying. I needed to find a CVS which led us to Providence Place Mall. It was about 10 am and since its Sunday all of the stores were closed. We ate at Panera and got in our car on our way to Cape Cod. It took us about an hour to make it to Woods Hole in Falmouth where we caught the ferry to Martha's Vineyard. The trip was $8 per person each way. The weather was perfect, so it was a lovely 45 min ride to Oaks Bluff.
We were hungry again by the time we got to Oaks Bluff, so we ate at the 1st restaurant we saw, which was Lookout Tavern. The place was packed, but since we sat on the rail, which is like a bar overlooking the beach, we were seated right await. We had lobster tacos and chicken fingers. Both were delicious!
Next we wandered around town through all the shops and made our way to the gingerbread houses. These were adorable. Then we headed towards the beach. It was pretty hot at this point and the water was so clear I wanted to jump in, but since I didn't have my bathing suit I just dipped my toes. The water was freezing! I swear my foot got numb in the 2 seconds it was in there.
At this point we decided to grab the public bus to Edgartown. The bus costs $7 per person for an all day pass. You can hop on and off as many times as you want. We toured through the little shops and stopped to have some ice cream before catching a bus to Aquinnah.
I didn't realize how far this was. By now it was about 4:15. We didn't get there until about 5:00. The ride over was long, but picturesque. We passed over rural areas and small towns until we made it to Aquinnah. It was worth the long drive. The cliffs are awe inspiring! We hung around the area until the next bus came at 6:15. Then we headed to Vineyard Haven. We wanted to catch the 7:15 ferry back to Woods Hole, so we didn't get to explore this area. Had we gotten an earlier start to our day we would've, but it was a fantastic day trip. I look forward to coming back.
