beaches to drive to - activities with toddler

So this is a 2 part question: We're visitng for a week and bringing our car - looking for beach spots that we could drive and park at - don't need ammenities, just nice beaches and the ability to park. Also, coming with our 19 month old, and reco's for additional activities with her, including restaurants where we can take her?

Children's, Jetties, Dionis and Surfside have defined parking lots, but they do fill up on sunny days. Unless it's an exceptionally still day, the north shore - Children's in town, Jetties in Brant Point, and Dionis - have very calm surf and are the best bet for toddlers to enjoy the water and chase hermit crabs. Surfside and other south shore spots like Madaket, Miacomet and Cisco can get very rough. Fun for older kids, but usually too much for little ones. I've seen children of every age in nearly every restaurant on island. Most places are fairly welcoming to kids, espeically if you eat on the early side. That said, The Brotherhood of Thieves is a good bet for pub food for all ages.

Children's Beach is adjacent to a nice park and playground with swings, climbing structures, etc. Jetties also has some playground equipment nearby. The beach at Children's is very small and I personally am not enthused about going in the water there (lots of boats moored nearby with the faint smell of marine diesel) whereas Jetties is a great place to swim.

Kids seem to like sitting up at the counter at the pharmacy on Main Street for an ice cream or smoothie. We also enjoy Something Natural on Cliff Road, which has great sandwiches and some outdoor tables where kids can run around. Other places that are notably family friendly are the Downyflake (breakfast) and Pi Pizzeria. However, as noted above, you can bring well-behaved kids almost anywhere if you eat early. We took our toddler to Ship's Inn and they treated her like the guest of honor.
