Balboa Inn or Magnolia Inn?

We arrive at 7:30 pm on a Monday night and leave for Bocas on the Tues morning flight out of Albrook. We prefer to get closer to the Albrook airport the first night so we have less stress/transit time the next morning. It appears both of these are very close. We fly home a week later at 9:55 AM from Tocumen after coming back from Bocas the afternoon prior. So the only time we will have to see the canal or any sights will be our last afternoon/evening before flying home.

Having said all of that...is there a reason to stay at one over the other for the first night and the other on our last night? Perhaps I am over thinking this and it really doesn't matter, but I thought I would toss out the question for the experts. Thanks!

Balboa Inn will be closer, BUT you will need to deal with a serious lack of nearby restaurants. Niko's Cafe (local cafeteria style, open 24hrs) is within walking distance, but that's about it. Anything else will be require a taxi ride.

Magnolia Inn a little farther, but still less than 20 min to Albrook that time of day. Lots of restaurants within walking distance and you would be able to enjoy sitting at one of the plazas for eats and people watching. Would definitely choose the Magnolia for the return when you have a little time to walk around Casco Viejo, see the sights and have a nice dinner.

Enjoy Panama

So maybe Balboa for the first night since we will get in late anyway and leave early, and Magnolia for the return since we will have the evening?

Thanks so much for the input.

Any one else want to chime in?
