Afternoon/evening in Panama, what to do?

Hello all, our family of 4 with 2 boys ages 7 and 12 will be arriving at Tocumen airport at about 2:30 pm. We will be leaving the next morning for our 9:30 am flight to Costa Rica. We would like to visit the Panama Canal before we leave for our flight in the morning but realize that this probably isn't feasible. Any other recommendations for our nature-loving, adventurous family to do near the airport during our limited time in Panama?

Not a lot near the airport.

And you are not going to have much day time to do things either. Depending on when you actually get out of the airport, and traffic, you might bé able to get to Miraflores before it closes. Otherwise you could go on to the next lock, Pedro Miguel, where there is a viewing area beside the road.

Miraflores exhibit is great if you can squeeze it in. Or take the family for a stroll along Cintura Costera...nice green belt along the shore in PC.

You should probably skip the "adventurous" activity as you will not enough day light time. As mentioned above, walk the cinta costera or even rent a bike (there is a bike and skates rental at the entrance of San Felipe (Casco Viejo) just after the fish market and behing the big round about... Also take a walk in the Casco Viejo (old town) and have dinner there.

The Miraflores Visitor Center close at 5pm and the ticket office at 4:30pm. If you get out the airport at 3pm maybe you can be around 4pm at the Visitor Center. The price for adults is $15.00 and for children between 6 and 12 is $10.00

After that maybe you can take a walk in Cinta Costera and have dinner at Casco Viejo as someone else said.
