Female traveling alone - Is it safe to do so?

Thinking of meeting my boyfriend from Costa Rica in Nicaragua for a few days, then staying on alone to travel a bit. Is it okay for a female to travel solo there without feeling unsafe? Any suggestions where we could stay for 3 days would be appreciated!! (Grananda, Managua, Isla de Ometepe?)

1. Re: Female traveling alone - Is it safe to do so?

i spent 10 days there over thanksgiving with my wife, brother and father--we rented a car in managua---i am conversational in sp and my wife too --

i would say you are safe ---only prob we had was getting shaken down all the time by the cops--while driving

but the people are very cool --so i think you are safe --the local women are on the busses alone --and they are very attractive--

it is lot like cr only clearly less money for people --
