I posted in another board about this, but as it was off-topic I thought I'd ask here.
I'm 21, not particularly well travelled in this part of the world, can only say I've been to Poland when I was 16. Quite shy in real life. I'm also very passionate about photography, so I will be carrying an extremely valuable bit of kit around in Kiev especially. My question is, just how safe is Ukraine statistically, and based on your own experiences, is there any advice or things I should know? Is it safe to get my camera out in the city? I heard Ukrainians can spot a foreigner a mile away, which I can't imagine would improve my chances.
Saying all this, I was almost robbed in Boston when I was 15 in a very busy subway, yet never had any trouble in some of the roughest areas of Warsaw. I know it's impossible to give an ironclad guarantee I won't be in any immediate danger, but would really appreciate any feedback or advice people could share.
