What to do in Belgrade on our extra day

We'll be taking a tour starting in Belgrade and we've added a day at the front end of the end of the tour. The tour will cover Kalemegdan Fortress, Republic Square and Mihajlova street, St. Sava's and Tito's Memorial. Any suggestions for what to do on our day on our own? (We'll be staying at Hotel Moskva, if that figures into the suggestions.) also, any restaurant suggestions?

If this is before end end of September, even early October might be good weather I would check out Ada Ciganlija an easy bus in 15mins or taxi from your hotel 400RSD and Zemun Quay. 20 mins bus or 500RSD taxi.

Take ID if you like bike riding. Hire a bike for the day on Ada and ride around the big lake, explore Ada, ride the river bike tow path back towards the old town, it follows the river, when you get to the big blue bridge with the lift, take the bike up in the lift, cross the bridge and turn back on yourself to the river, follow the tow path to Zemun Quay, lunch on one of the floating pontoons.

if you don't want to long ride bikes, go to both places by taxi. Take a taxi first from your hotel to Hotel Jugolslavia, that's directly on the river facing the pontoons then walk up to old Zemun. That wil be a nice couple of hours stopping for coffe or lunch on the river.

When on Ada take the little train around the big lake and maybe take lunch or early evining food the fishing lake at Ada Safari. :

Back in town, Hotel Moskva is A1 location, can't be better really. You must go see the old quarter Skadarlija by night, it's but a a 10min walk, just ask someone. Here you must take a late dinner one night with local musicians and old ambience, I would suggest the terrace in restaurant Ima Dana offers best quality and value.

For better food and wonderful location, usually some live classic music in background, take dinner on Kalamegdan terrace restaurant. You might be shown it on the tour. The drinks gardens below and above this restaurant have great views across the river confluence, go to the upper garden at sunset for cocktails! Book a table out on the terrace.....lovely.

P.S. Kalemegdan terrace restaurant looks very expensive (by local standards it is) but for visitors from UK or USA it is not especially right now

as the exchange rate in your favour, you can have a great meal and wine here for equivalent of USD35 a head. Jusy choose wine carefully, the internationals will cost more than the food.

Indeed, Maria if night owls. And I'd say the best splav 'area' for 1st time visitors is Zemun Quay by Hotel Jugoslavia directions as I posted above.

Also Block 45 in New Belgrade, by day you an get to the splavs on block 45 by ferry from Ada Ciganlija for 75 RSD. Very quiet by day but good for relax.

Hi,

Having on mind things worht seeing, I could suggest almost every place here on this link - expatserbia.com/must-see-a-visit/must-see-in… is a quite sufficient. As you can see, there is a plenty of attractions to choose from. Skadarlija is a MUST and very close to hotel Moskva! St Marko Church and Tasmajdan park are also in walking distance from the hotel so try to check it out. On your way there you could pass by The National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia, again worth seeing. Whole Kosancicev venac is amazing and you could visit it in the same time as Kalemegdan.

Yes, If you are coming in summer, splavs are inevitable. The best bars are on Strahinjica Bana street, Obilicev venac Street, Njegoseva Street and Zemun quay on the Danube. When it comes to the best restaurants: On the corner, Madera, Caruso, Depo 23, Fransh, Saran, Lorenzo&Kakalamba, Zaplet etc.

If you have some more questions, just ask :)
