Pacific for Less or other booking help...

Has anyone used Pacific for Less to book a trip to Tahiti? I'm wondering if they are reputable. I am looking to arrange my honeymoon from NYC to Tahiti for 7 nights, including 2 islands. If anyone has suggestions on how to best arrange this, getting the best hotels, transfers, etc. for the best price, it would be greatly appreciated.

The reason specific companies get deleted sometimes is it often sounds like the recommendations (are not fake) but rather are being pushed for by the company. Like after someone takes a trip, the company asks the customers to ..."write something nice about us on TA". And so while the recommendation itself is not categorized as "self promotion"....the asking for it kinda falls into a that grey area.

Of all the travel companies out there that specialize in Tahiti travel (and there are several), it seems Pacific for Less is recommended 20 times more than all the others combined. It does not mean it is 20 times better or cheaper...only that many of their customers seem to be more inclined to give a review stating the name of the company. Often the reviews are by people who have never posted on TA before and just registered the very day they post a review. Very few of the other reviews ever include the name of the travel company. So it isn't difficult to conclude that Pacific for Less is asking their customers to write reviews promoting them.

Now, as I said, before, that does not mean to imply the reviews are fake...I believe they are written by real people after their real vacations....it's just that by the sheer number of recommendations it makes that particular company look so much better than all the others when it isn't necessarily so.

I personally tried to contact Pacific for Less to quote for our trip to FP in April/May. They didn't return my calls or my email inquiries - thus I booked elsewhere -with Costco.

When booking with a travel agent, price is not always the best factor to consider - take into consideration how easy it is to contact the TA. If you are forced to interact with them via email or voicemail, take that requirement into consideration and apply it to a situation where your trip is imploding and you need assistance 'now'. If an agent consistently forces you to leave voicemails or correspond via email in order to get their assistance, you may be 'on-your-own' if something goes wrong on the trip - which is not what you are paying for. Also, make sure that the TA has been in business for an extended time and carries the requisite licenses and insurance necessary so that they don't magically disappear before or during your trip.

BBB ratings are not very reliable in my experience. I have had to use their services in the past and they really do not help the consumer to resolve problems - they are simply a mediation agency and if a business doesn't want to mediate a problem - then there's nothing BBB can do to help you get a solution.

This is why we did not use pacific for less. Similar to Meadowlark's post. they took well over a month to respond, by then we had chosen a TA who responded to all our various emails within a few minutes usually, and at most the next day.

I have no idea if they are good or not, or cheap or not, but we wanted good, responsive and available service. If we were only after the cheapest price, well, we may have just shopped around and booked ourselves. We used a TA for the other things so that the whole trip would work smoothly and be amazing. It was. I am happy to share who we used by message with anyone who wants a referral. She was great!!

Your best bet is to choose a travel agent who is certified by Tahiti Tourism as a Tahiti Tiare specialist. Use the search function on their website in the upper right corner to find one located near where you live: www.tahiti-tourisme.com

Several of the posters in this forum who are travel agents are certified specialists; you can also probably locate someone located close to home with whom you can have personal contact.

I never like to give recommendations regarding TA's on the open forum as it is a highly heated topic.

I sent you my recommendation via PM

While you did not ask I will volunteer that 7 nights from NY is a little silly. It is so far to travel and you have already spent so much on air I would try to modify my schedule for a minimum of 10 nights.
