Car rental prices for Moorea

Ia orana

Back from Moorea with some interresting fact findings about car rental.

I have for quite a while suggested using Avis on Moorea for the excellent service received, the long stay discount and their new fleet of cars. Some posters have at late indicated lower rates for Albert car rental.

The difference comes in the insurance coverage. Albert car are only covered third party liability. you crash the car, you own a piece of art on the island (to be paid for of course).

Avis basic rental has a coverage with a $400 deductible (an additional coverage for no deductible is available too).

Avis car rentals can also be taken on the ferry and are covered for both islands.

Value for the money is not always the least expensive....

Food for thoughts ,

Thank you. Always need to have good insurance when out of the country........

Do we need a car in Moorea? We will be at the Hilton for 4 nights prior to sailing on the PG (and 3 nights in Tahiti). How far are the restaurants from the hotel and will taxi's's be available? Are we better or renting for a day or two?

Thank You

Aito restaurant is walking distance from the Hilton. a couple of places will also arrange for a delivery ( Luciano's Pizza ) and pick up : Alfredo.

A car for 2 days would indeed offer the best value for your money and the freedom to explore at will the island.

majke sure to go to the belvedere at the end of Opunohu bay and to make a stop at the stand of the Lycee agricole fo the best smoothies and the most incredible local jams of coconut, tiare flower, pineapple etc,...and also for Vanilla bean.

Bon voyage

Forget Alfredo's restaurant. Please use this TA board

for recommendations. Rudy's and Hou Iti get very good reviews.

Honu Iti/ Chez Roger on pao pao with reservation needed for a table is indeed one of the better table on Moorea 9And priciest).

Not sure though that they pick up guests. the hotel will know more about it.

It's a food stand at the agricultural school. They have really yummy ice cream...which is reallly nice to stop and have a scoop (or 3) after you visit the ancient Polyneisan marae and Belvedere view point. They also sell (and sample) all kinds of yummy jams and such. You can't miss it. It's right off the road to Belvedere.

Thank you. I will look into a car for a few days. I think it will probably be a good idea. Just hope we can keep the cost reasonable.

We leave in June.

Thanks Again

Sue
