suva accom.for family with kitch, pool & laundry facilities

My family of 2 adults & 2 children will be in Suva for 10 days late august 2013. We would like an apartment style accomm with kitchen, pool & laundry. We have previously stayed at the Suva Motor Inn - which is great, but sadly only a laundry serviceis available - we would prefer to do ourselves... all replies appreciated. Additionally any suggestions for local/close activities (other than Hibiscus Festival) would be gratefully recieved also :)

Have a look at the Capricorn Apartment Hotel in Suva, might just suit.

Hi Hooked-on, recent reviews of the Capricorn don't give you much confidence!

Really, we have a friend who goes there on business and has found it OK which was why I suggested it.

We always used to stay at Capricorn in Suva and liked it's proximity to the city, although the walk up the hill after a day's activity was hard. Last time we stayed was admittedly a few years ago (5?) and at that time we decided it had gone down to such a degree that we would not stay again. We had a favourite room on the top floor which we asked for and were reluctantly given - possibly because it was in such a state of bad repair. The phone wires were hanging out of the wall and there were other problems too numerous to mention. Bare feet on the floor quickly turned black with dirt. Maybe they are just maintaining a few rooms and we asked for one which was not being serviced? The pool was not well maintained, very cloudy water.

Regarding the laundry - at that stage there were no guest laundry facilities - the laundry was located on the ground floor behind reception and was for staff use only.

It is of course possible that things have improved - but a look at recent reviews would not indicate that. A pity because in earlier times I really liked it and stayed many times.

Not too sure on accommodation, the ones I can think of either have kitchen or laundry but not both... Can help with things to see in Suva: Fiji Museum, Fiji Government House, local craft market & flea market, watch a local rugby game at Albert Park, visit a local orphanage (take some donations if you can).... :)
