surf and turf

Hi, just started looking into this part of the world. I began with cruises. The Paul Gauguin looks interesting but i think 14 days might be pushing it for that size ship. We have never cruised, although we did share a small houseboat with 2 other couples in northern ontario last year(lol).

I was wondering if any of you had done a cruise combined with a land stay. Maybe a week for each leg.

We would be arriving via LAX. We are mid 50s but very active and young at heart. We do like the option of a little night life, at least for part of the trip. We would like to spend a few nights at a hut over water. Thanks for your help

As you haven't taken a cruise, would consider a shorter cruise with an island stay.

Blue Lagoon, Captain Cook, and Tui Tai offer shorter cruises. Haven't taken them, so can't offer any advice.

The following links has comparisons between Blue Lagoon and Captain Cook Cruises.

LikuLiku is adults only, and the only resort in Fiji with over the water bures. Very pricey.

Other island resorts catering to couples depending on budget are: Tokoriki, Qamea, Royal Davui, Namale, Kula Bay, and Matangi, our favorite resort in Fiji.

Also consider Navini, Nanuya, Botaira, and Viwa for an island stay. All are small resorts. Navini and Viwa allow children. There we no children as we went off season and outside the Australia and New Zealand school holidays.

The following links have pictures of our vacations to Matangi and Navini. They will give you a good idea of the resort grounds, beach, snorkeling, etc.

Hope this helps.

we have been to Fiji many times would suggest that you look at WANANAVU really looks after couples of any age about 2 hours from Nadi but they will pick up. The good criuse is with Blue Lagoon we have been on them 5 times . Tokoriki is great but it is really for young honeymooners very isolated and expensive for wines etc.

Also look at the Warwick at the Coral Coast geat hotel would also suggest that you spent at least 1 night going in and out as what ever you look at they are all at leats 2 to 3 hours from nadi and the roads are bad, if you go out to a island you have a 30 minute ride to Latoka then a long boat ride.

Fiji is a great place please do not tip as it is an insult to them instead leave some money at the end in the staff box plus any clothing that you wish as it is all put too good use.

Blue Lagoon does good cruises however lately there food has been pretty average. As E&CReno suggested, have a look at Captain Cook Cruises. some local friends of mine recently went of one of these for their honey moon and loved it.
