We want to get married in Fiji May 2011 - help!!!

Hi all, Ive spent countless hours on the 'net and achieved nothing but getting way too much information!!! I need to narrow things down a bit - so hope you can help!

We are tavelling from the UK next May on a round the world trip. It was going to be the honeymoon - but we decided that getting married on a tropical beach would be much more fun than the local registry office! Fist stop will be Fiji for a week - get married, then on to NZ, Oz and Singapore - so have to stick to some kind of budget!!! I have the flights sorted (flexible dates) but need to nail something for Fiji since the getting married bit is kinda important!

Here's what we would like! We will both be 45, and will most likley be travelling alone (...bit far for guests but thats fine with us!!!) Would ideally like some kind of all-inclusive option as I understand Fiji is quite expensive??? (...we like a good meal - but are just as happy in a hawker market as a 5* restaurant!) and as long as we can get some local beer and a vodka in the evening will be happy! Not looking for a place full of screaming kids! We like meeting people and making friends! As for the wedding itself - lots of the big resorts offer packages - but all we want is a celebrant on the beach, us on the sand, and thats it really! No big fuss!

As for the resort or location - thats the tricky bit. There are options such as the Outrigger and Warwick, then Octopus and simpler resorts. There are so many! Thing is - as long as we have a decent roon or bure (preferred) with some aircon, a pool, be by the beach, and have some bars and restaurants close by or on the resort we're happy! Doesn't want to be mega-lively with nightclubs - but doesn't want to be dead either!!!

Have a budget of $fj 5000 if all inclusive to include the getting marrried bit! Otherwise around $fj3000. Staying for 7 nights. (ish!)

Hopefully you can help me with the answers! Open to any sugestions!

Hi sherlock,

We got married at the Outrigger last july, so we know what you are going through with the info overload you can get. We chose the Outrigger because of the inclusions that they provided for the cost of the service, this suited us because we had 27 guests as well. So it would pay to work out what you want as far as what inclusions you want (flowers, cake, fijian warriors, etc) then start looking again.

I would be tending towards an Island wedding more than the mainland as you can pick a smaller resort with less kids & the beaches on the islands are a lot nicer than the mainland. There are plenty of islands that do weddings & you may be able to get a price for a complete package of wedding & accommodation. Get yourself a travel brouchure from your TA & check them out on the internet.

Be aware that you have to be in Fiji for a minimum of 3 working days before you can get married.

Good luck & congrats
