Uber usage by foreigner in Montevideo

Hello,

I've been reading various reports that Uber in South America does not permit payment from foreign credit cards.

Can anyone confirm recent information as to whether an American credit card associated with an Uber account would be operational in Montevideo?

Thanks

Have used my Uber account in Uruguay and paid with my US credit card many, many times. Download the app at home though, so you can enter your US credit card. It'll be accepted anywhere you go in the world that Uber services. The charge goes directly to your credit card and it's submitted by Uber, so no local issues there.

PS: The only thing that won't be operational is your phone number. So if the Uber driver wants to contact you, he won't be able to do it. I changed my Uber phone number to my google voice number so that I can get their text messages and calls via wi fi.

Driver is going to pay well for that text message to a US foreign number. I hope you realize it is the only way he can text you.

In my case, drivers told me they couldn't contact me once they realized my Uber number was a foreign number.

I used Uber a lot in Montevideo with no problems. I was even able to get airport pick up, which was significantly cheaper than taxis. Just be sure your Uber account has Visa and MasterCard as payment options.

@cch1,

Was it recently that you got picked up from MVD? Going soon and during last trip, Uber drivers were being fined for airport pick ups, so they weren't showing up. Thanks

I've been in Montevideo in March/2017.

UBER is running perfectly. I took one from the city centre to Castillo Pittamiglio (8km - 195 pesos).

I paid via APP (my credit card is VISA, from Brazil).

Just back from Montevideo, where I used Uber a dozen times without a hitch. Incidentally, I found Montevideo's Uber drivers to be super friendly and very professional.

Just used Uber with American CC and no problem. It is the best way to get around.
