We will be travelling by motorcycle from Lima to Urubamba. How far is it and what are the roads like?
Kari from Canada
Quite a trip ,hey.
From Lima to Nazca is 450 kms. This is in the coast and just as you are reaching Nazca you will start to leave the coast.
Then you take the road to Cusco.Yr first refueling area should be in Puquio which is about 150 kms, going up hill most of the time.No good places to lodge
Then you go to Chalhuanca
which is another 150 kms aprox.Again you go up hill and with no place where to lodge.
Then you go to Abancay which is a small city. Its another 150 kms aprox. Here you will find lodging places for reasonable prices.
From here you go to Urubamba which is 182 kms. When you get to a town called Izcuchaca, you have to take a short cut on a dirt road that will save you at least 50 kms to the Valley. This road will take you directly to Urubamba via the Huaypo Lagoon, instead of having to go all the way to Cusco
If you need more info just let me know.
Gracias, for your reply.
What is the conditon of the dirt road at Izcuchaca? And approx how long is it?
Its only about 13 kms and it is in quite good shape. Its worth the short cut and the road is really nice going by the lagoon.
