Bus tours from Aguas Calientes?

Traveling with my sister mid-August; we are both in our mid-60's. We have a hotel in Cusco, then a hotel in Aguas Calientes, and then again in Cusco. Is there a bus tour from Aguas C. to Machu Picchu? I have read a lot about trekking tours, but we couldn't do a long walking tour, but would like to be with a guide to explain the details to us. Is there such a thing for a day, or are we on our own? Do the tours have your entrance tickets, or do we need to get electronic tickets in advance, and do the trip on our own? Thanks a million

It's not a bus tour, but just a bus you take up the mountain to the entry at Machu Picchu. You can buy the tickets on the spot before boarding the bus (bus stop very easy to find). About $18 round trip. Then, you can hire a guide at the entrance -- recommendations are to chat with one a few minutes to gauge their facility with English, so you can understand the tour itself. Tours at the site at usually about two hours, then you can explore on your own, take more pictures, or just find a nice place to sit and absorb the energy.

You would need to get your Machu Picchu tickets in advance (or buy them at the official office in the plaza in Aguas Calientes). There are threads on this forum about how to book your tickets online successfully as sometimes it's problematic. Or ask your Cusco hotel to obtain the tickets for you -- this is often possible. You can not buy Machu Picchu at the actual entrance, though. Here is one thread with info about buying MP tickets online: tripadvisor.com/ShowTopic-g294318-i3352-k648…

Most important is to get your train tickets in advance, as these often sell out. Trails leaving from Ollanataytambo (Sacred Valley) to Aguas Calientes (& return) have much more availability than from Cusco to AC. Actually, the Peru Rail site will say "Sacred Valley" for Ollantaytambo and "Machu Picchu" instead of Aguas Calientes. www.perurail.com

If you don't want to do this on your own, many agencies will manage it all for you, MP tickets, train tickets, bus tickets & guide at MP. Of course, there is extra cost for their services
