Lima,Peru to Machu Picchu

We will be in Lima and would like to visit Machu Picchu and if time the Galapagos Island. (This will be an extended lay over in Lima then connect to fly home to the USA so a return to Lima is necessary) Any suggestions for a tour we can take from Lima???

check out this Lima guide on TA: tripadvisor.com/Guide-g294316-l222-Lima_Lima…

it has 3 options for things to do in a day in Lima. depending on your interests you can go to the historic center, Miraflores, or Barranco

How many days do you have for your layover?

Although I know map-reading is a dying art, you may want to look at one.

www.andeantravelweb.com is a good place to browse about Machu Picchu.

Yes, how much time do you have? You need at least 3 days, preferably 4, to go to Machu Picchu. With even more days, there is a lot more to see in the Sacred Valley/Cusco area.

You can take a flight to Cusco, then train to Machu Picchu, & return back to Lima. Don't know about going to the Galapagos -- many do it, though. We did not. You would not go from Cusco at any rate, but from Lima. Agree that www.andeantravelweb.com has much good information for you to begin planning your trip.

If you don't want to plan it all yourself, there are many agencies often recommended on this forum:

Numerous companies offer Machu Picchu and Galapagos combination tours (try Google...). When comparing, make sure you check what is included in the price (ex: flights, entrance fees), and what type of hotels/boats are included.

Also, are you planning on doing this trip during a layover??? If so, I hate to break it to you, but not going to happen. You need about a week.

While the chances of getting rain are increased during the rainy season you can get rain at Machu Picchu even during the dry season, just bring Umbrellas and/or ponchos.
