Did you book you vacation? just curious. we are looking at going next may(2013). We have traveled with Globus and Tralfagar, but not with either of your choices. Please let me know what you found out. It is hard to pick an agency that you know nothing about. thanks, Marcia
thanks for the post. trying to figure out if we should take an entire escorted tour or try to piece together ourselves. We are seasoned travelers, but sometimes you send quite a bit more money to piece it together. suggestions?
It is not an issue to combine these two destinations into one itinerary; the most important is to keep in mind the flight schedule. LAN has direct flights from Lima to the Easter Islands on Wednesday and Sunday. The flights depart Lima in the late evening and arrive on the Easter Islands in the early morning the next day. Therefore you should try to organize your schedule to fly out of Cusco in the afternoon on a Sunday or Wednesday and that same evening continue from Lima to the Easter Islands. If not possible to travel on these days you will have to fly over Santiago de Chile.
In case you would be booking on your won, make sure to book the train and entrance tickets to Machu Picchu in advance.
I hope this helps,

If you haven't bought your ticket yet, LAN is still having a sale from the US to Easter Island with Lima as a stopover.
This is the ticket I bought. I'm not planning any packages except for a Colca canyon tour. It's been easy enough to buy domestic air tickets online and book hostals.
Seppe, how far ahead is it necessary to buy Machi Picchu train and entrance tickets? I'll be going directly from Cusco airport to Ollamtaytambo for a couple of days.
The time in advance to buy your train and entrance tickets for Machu Picchu depends largely on the season of travel. The high season (April till October) you may want to buy this some weeks in advance. In the low season (November till March) a couple of days should be sufficient.
Following are the websites for the 3 train companies;
For your entrance tickets please go to this link;
On this link you can also see the amount of tickets still left for each day. Please keep in mind that this number is not constantly updated.
Hope this helps,

Thank you Seppe. Much appreciated. I'll be traveling in November, but I only have a limited time, so I will go ahead and get the entrance tickets.
thanks for the post. I will look into that.
I think the same than the others, don´t combine these two destinations into one itinerary. The most important is Buy in advance your flight tickets to the Easter Islands.
The booking was efficient and the staff always responded promptly, made it very easy to contact them.
