Hotel with view of pacific ocean?

we will have only 1 night in Lima before traveling on to Cusco en route through Bolivia to Rio.

I was hoping to find a hotel with an ocean location so that we will get the feel of traveling coast to coast. We are two adults and 3 teenagers so I don't want to spend the earth. Any suggestions?

We stayed at Second Home Peru in Barranco(just next to Miraflores), had a gorgeous view of the Pacific. You would need a least 2 bedrooms there, and be aware that some have bathrooms not fully closed off from the bedroom. www.secondhomeperu.com.

Or, you could have dinner out on the Pacific, at La Rosa Nautica. It's a fancy gourmet restaurant, but we went in our hiking boots & hiking pants (no problem) & paid much less than for a similar meal in the US. Our last dinner in Peru was an unforgettable experience! See their website: www.larosanautica.com.

redhead,

How was the view at night? Are there lights so you can kind of see the ocean? (I have the impression that dinner starts after 8:00 p.m. in Peru)--had wondered if we'd do better having a late lunch there?

We had a reservation for 7 or 7:30 p.m. at La Rosa Nautica (we weren't the first ones there, either). It was still light when we got there. We were seated windowside (think glassed-in gazebo, most tables at the windows, waitstaff areas in center), and could see waves crashing underneath us. The restaurant itself & piers are quite well lit, hence actually seeing the waves.

For lunch, our tour guide, Cinthya Lequernaque, took us to a great local restaurant, Aires Peruanos, where local Lima office workers go for a cheap lunch & dancing (salsa & merengue) to a live band. This was an unforgettable experience-- for only 30 soles for 3 meals!

Also, our taxi driver taking us from the airport to Second Home Peru (arranged by them in advance), drove us along the coastal highway to Barranco, so we got a great view of the ocean.
