Getting from Iquitos to Piura

Hey I am going to Iquitos for couple of days and from there I want to get to Piura. Any ideas what is the cheapest way to get there if I want to avoid travelling by plane?

Take a boat downriver to a town that has land connections leading to Piura is not necessarily much cheaper than flying on a cheap ticket, and is very time consuming.

I read the boat trip down Amazon river is amazing. It takes about 4 days and costs 70 soles to Yurimaguas. It is not that difficult to get from Yurimaguas to Piura, there are regular buses from Yurimaguas to Tarapoto and then Piura. I do realize it is time consuming but it is more about experience than money or time. The problem is I cannot find any timetabble for the boats or buses, which is kind of a problem in organising the trip.

The boat trip is certainly a cool experience, i would sort it out when there as it all depends on many factors, certainly check out the timetables as soon as you get there. I have travelled in the boat, but it does drag on a bit, and you are on a river highway, not a jungle sight seeing trip.

Thanks! Also, is it safe to travel by boat?
