Wayna Mundo Tour Operator

Don't book your Machu Picchu trip with Wayna Mundo. Why?

1. Wayna Mundo promises small groups BUT you get big groups of around 15 people (in low season).

2. Wayna Mundo promises bilingual guides but only one of the two guides could speak English.

3. Wayna Mundo promises a confirmed train ticket on the hour of your choice the day before visiting Machu Picchu BUT you get a ticket on the hour of their choice late in the evening after several calls of the guide.

4. Wayna Mundo promises a pick up at the train station BUT you get a collectivo bus again after several calls to their office.

We also had a horrendous experience with this company.

Our guide was lovely but the brakes on our mountain bikes did not work - important given we were downhilling in the rain on steep mountain roads with frequent oncoming traffic.

We were unable to go rafting as two people had died on a capsized raft the day before. We were told we would be refunded our money but to do this at the agency was very stressful, to say the least.

The owners were incredibly rude, greedy and blatantly dishonest, trying to change figures on the receipt while we sat at the desk. Their attempts to explain why paying $50 entitles you to $15 back, or nothing, was frankly ridiculous - the only reason we got anything back was because another man bullied and negotiated for us. It took 2 hours.

They offer the same tour as everybody else for a similar price, yet as soon as you stop paying for services they change completely and will squeeze you for as much as they can get, knowing there is not much you can do about it.

It was an utterly horrendous experience and we would strongly advise against using this company. DO NOT USE THEM!

Badly organized, bad food, bad accommodation

This tour could have been amazing, sadly the tour company (wayna) was focused only on one thing, making money and for us this meant a bad tour.

The mountain bikes we were given on our first day had clearly not been serviced or maintained. My rear brake didn't work and they told me not to worry, I can get a lift down in their minivan. No apology or attempt to fix the brake. Our first nights accommodation was poor and we barely slept due to the cockerel that was outside our room. The rafting however was very good, despite lots of waiting around.

After lunch on our second day, we were expected to wait by the side of the dirt road for 1hr 30mins, to avoid walking in the heat , however we soon realised it was so our guide could have a sleep. Our guide did speak good English and was knowledgeable with Inca history, but he was very unorganized and seemed to do things to suit himself and not the group. Our second night accommodation was next door to the towns nightclub, so again little sleep and again no hot water, despite being promised this.

For the zip lining, we had to get up early to then be waiting around for 2 hours 30 mins by the road outside the ziplining office.

The food was extremely basic, and not nearly enough to feed you. You are packed into the tiny restaurants with other tour groups. We had to buy many snacks through the day to compensate.

The third nights accommodation in Agua Calientes was good, however it wasn't enough to make up for the first 2.

This tour was extremely badly organized, it was not as described by the tour agency. It was extremely overpriced and we massively regret choosing wayna.
