1 or 2 days at the Maccu Piccu ruins?

We are walking the Inca trail and can choose to have a second day at Maccu Piccu . Is one day enough?

It depends....loads of people visit Machu PIcchu in one day, some only have a few hours there and they are happy with that. I would say if you plan to hike Huayna Picchu then you might consider adding a second day but if you go hard you can probably squeeze it all in one.

If you have the option, I say plan for the extra day. You never know what technical issues you might encounter upon finishing the Inca Trail. You may simply be tired, ready for a hot shower and a warm bed, or just want to enjoy MP without having to worry about catching your train. With a 2nd day at MP, you can return to the site early the next morning, avoiding the huge mid-day crowds, and enjoy MP at a leisurely pace. All pluses in my book.

Happy travels.

One day seemed enough, but I arrived the earliest possible, and did not climb Wayna Picchu. The early afternoon crowd, however, is rather horrible, sometimes it feels like a crowded bus, so make sure it is not the only experience you get of MP.
