14 Day Peru itinerary (for Nov)_-would love feedback!

Hi everyone- We are finalizing our trip to Peru (we'll be there mid November) and would appreciate any feedback! We've done some research on the forums, but still have some holes to fill. Our original itinerary included stops around Nazca/Pisca to see the Nazca lines and go sandboarding, but due to timing we've cut that out. Please let me know if you think we should work it back into our schedule and cut something else out. Thank you!!

Day 1: Arrive in Lima around 7pm. Stay the night in Lima.

Day 2: AM flight to Arequipa, spend the day in Arequipa

Day 3: Here's where it gets tricky -- we would like to see Colca Canyon, but is the only option a two day / one night trip? We would rather not do that. Alternatively, if we were not to explore Colca Canyon, would it be worth it to spend 3 full days in Arequipa/surrounding area, or simply add another day to the Sacred Valley area?

Day 4: Arequipa/Canyon [or onto Puno]?

Day 5: AM bus to Puno / spend day in Puno

Day 6: Lake Titicaca- Looking at going with Edgar Tours to do a morning tour of the Uros, and an afternoon tour to the Sillustani Funerary towers and local farm visit?

Day 7: Train/Bus to Cusco- We are thinking about taking the Tour Peru bus (6-8 hours) or the Inca Express "tourist bus" that stops at 5 sites along the way. Anyone have any opinions on which is better (including which seats may be more comfortable) ? We would then spend the night in Cusco and go to Olly in the AM, or go straight from Puno to Olly to be closer to our tour for Day 8.

Day 8: Mountain bike tour with KB Tour in the AM. Evening train from Olly to AC.

Day 9: Aguas Calientes. Go to Machu Picchu for sunrise? This is another place where we are struggling. We had originally wanted to do a two day hike to MP, but we also wanted to be there for sunrise and no treks offered that. We'd really at least like to do a 1 day Inca trail hike but we've waited too long and all the spots for the 2 day hikes have been filled. So its looking like we will do MP by ourselves and get there for sunrise.

Take the Vistadome train back to Cusco at 3:30pm

Day 10: Spend the day in Cusco

Day 11: Cusco/ Cab to Pisac market (this is a Tuesday)

Day 12: AM in Cusco, Mid-day flight to Lima

Day 13: Full Day in Lima

Day 14: Full Day in Lima

Day 15: fly out 12:45 AM

There is a 1-day Colca Canyon tour but you leave Arequipa at like 2AM and spend the entire day in the bus driving there and back with only a couple hours at Colca Canyon...not worth it in my opinion.

If you fly early to Arequipa on Day 2 you should have the afternoon to see the highlights around Arequipa. You can leave for a 2-Day Colca tour on Day 3 and insted of returning to Arequipa with the tour on Day 4 take the 4M Express Van www.4m-express.com to Puno and spend the night there. Spend Day 5 touring Lake TIticaca and take the bus to Cusco on Day 6.

Just a note...theres no reason to "spend the day" in Puno...besides its close proximity to Lake TItitcaca it really has very little else.

Unless you want to hike up the road from Aguas Calientes very early in the morning you wont make it for sunrise. The buses start operating around 5:30 which is about when sunrise is in November so by the time you ride the bus up and get inside it will already be up.

Rather than take the train all the way back to Cusco on Day 9, take it to Ollantaytambo insted and hire a taxi to take you back to Cusco stopping to visit Maras and Moray on the way.

If you still only have a day and a half in Cusco I would steal a day from Lima...one day in Lima is good enough to cover the highlights and Cusco has more to see and do in my opinion.
