Unexpected 5 Days on the Coast

One of our accommodations in Mendoza fell through, letting us to extend our time in the Valpariso area by five days (we'll have already had four days in Santiago).

Am assuming a car rental makes sense. Suggestions on how best to spend the time? Interesting accommodations/B&B's you'd recommend?

Many thanks,

B.

A car rental is a good idea. There are cute boutique hotels in Valparaiso. You could drive south to Isla Negra, where Pablo Neruda, had his main house. There is another in Valparaiso. The Hosteria in Isla Negra is old fashioned but comfortable. youcould drive north as far as La Serena or east up the Aconcagua Valley where there are excellent thermal spas at Jahuel and Baños de Corazon. You could spend an evening

at the Casino in Viña. Valparaiso has lots of good restaurants and is a great place to walk around.
