You can buy a prepaid data service from any of the operators such as Claro or Movistar.

I got a prepaid sim card with an unlimited 3g data plan in Santiago just a couple of weeks ago. If you speak spanish you'll have no problems finding where to get it. If you don't, here's a couple of hints - people in the shopping centres tend to sell contracts only, try one of the vendors at a market instead. ("prepAgo" is pre-paid in spanish)

Movistar worked terrible in Santiago - I could use internet only when I locked the speed in "edge" mode (very slow). don't bother with them. Try Entel, hopefully they are better..

It cost me around $4 for the sim card and $20 for the internet for a month. I think Entel is the same price.
