Santiago Airport Arrival Procedure

Our experience from March 2013:

After deplaning you come to a set of stairs. At the bottom turn left immediately, go to wicket #34 and pay your entry fee ($132us) for Canadians, US residents or others with no reciprocity agreement. They take credit cards. Take the receipt and go down to wickets 18-1, hand in the receipt, passport and the two entry forms you filled out on the plane. Do not lose the duplicate of the small form its required to leave the country. Proceed to baggage pick-up, go to Immigration, hand in the large form from the plane, put your bags on the scanner, pick them up, go to the taxi counter, with a map of your destination, pay the taxi fee in cash (not sure about credit cards). You can buy shared or taxi. Was only $1,000 Peso difference $18,000/19,000 pesos). The taxi driver will be asking for propina at the end of the ride.

It is not customary to tip taxi drivers in Chile. People round off a fare but do not tip unless there has been some special service on the part of the driver. You do not need to tip the drivers of the official taxis you pay for at the counters inside or outside customs. Everything is included in the price you pay.
