1. Re: ferry boat to Bariloche

your are a bit confounded, there is a combination of boat (not ferry) between Puerto Varas and Bariloche, it is a monopoly run by a Chilean operator, the track is P. Varas-Petrohue (bus or car) lake crossing by a boat (not for cars) to Peulla, bus to Puerto Blest (Arg.) and then a bus to Bariloche. As this crossing is a bit expensive to some tourists, you have two attractive and cheap alternatives, a bus or a car P. Varas -Bariloche by Samore Pass or by bus or car Puerto Varas-Panguipulli-Puerto Fuy . ferry along lake Pirihueico to Hua Hum Pass to San Martin de los Andes and Bariloche

all these routes run all year

Interesting info :), do you know how easy it is to buy a bus ticket to Bariloche a day or two in advance, once we get to P Varas? We'll be there mid November, are the buses likely to be full? Any tips where to buy a ticket once we do get to PV? Thank you for any info.

Easy, but one o better two days before, there are three lines departing morning and midday, ride aprox. 6 hours, very scenic. the main bus lines in PV (TurBus, Pullman, Cruz del Sur) has agreements to sell tickets to Bariloche, if not, go Bus Terminal Puerto Montt (15 min, frequent buses) and buy directly

Do you know of any website posting bus schedules from from San Martin de los Andes to Panguipulli through Hua-hum? Would it be all done in one bus, or would you have to take 2 buses: one to south of Lago Pirehueico and then another bus from Puerto Fuy? Haven't been able to find buses Lafit schedules. Thanks,

forget schedules, these buses are from small family firms, bus Lafit from SMA to Sunday morning

also there are daily buses from Puerto Fuy to Panguipulli, but you must try for your self how to reach Puerto Fuy, may be a Argentinian bus from SMA to Huahum (Arg., side) walk or hitchhike to Puerto Pirihueico , then a free ferry to P. Fuy

We are going to do a similar trip in late November. We will probably take our rental car the 1pm (only one this time of year) ferry from Puerto Fuy spend a few days in Argentina and drive back on the Samore pass.

I tried to book a date online and it asked me for a Patente??? ( perhaps the paperwork the car rental company is preparing for us?) Whatever it told me there was no room that day.

Has any one had experience booking the ferry ? What is the best way.?

The patente is the number of the license plate. You won't have that until you have the car. I would write "auto arrendado" in the space,
