Puerto Montt Tours

Our cruise ship will be in Puerto Montt from 8:00 - 17:00 on November 8 and I'd like to hook up with a local tour company (to see Puerto Varas, etc.). Do local tour companies meet cruise ships at the dock to offer their services or must I make reservations via the internet beforehand? Can anyone recommend a specific company? Would a car rental be a better option? Thanks.

it's preferable to check a company out with time and book beforehand

the cruise ships can sometimes overcharge for services they farm out

He Ben.We stopped in Perto Montt . The port town itself is very small, but many of its shops were open for business. We took a five hour private excursion to Petrohue and Puerto Varas -- in Chile's spectacular Lake District. Views of snow capped Osorno volcano across Llanquihue Lake were quite beautiful, and the Petrohue waterfalls were accessible and worth the short hike to reach them. The resort community of Puerto Veras features a handicraft market, which was also open for business.

Try with www.enaturchile.com , they specialize in private trips. we were happy with its work. In Santiago, Valparaiso, Puerto Mont and Buenos aires.

Good luck!!!

Just returned from a cruise which stopped in Puerto Montt. We arranged ahead of time with GV Tours for a day tour which included lunch. Very good tour at much less cost than off the ship. I would highly recommend.

PS they meet you just outside the port area (a few minutes walk through what appears to be a bus station).

We used Denis Purtov of puertomontt-excursiones. He was excellent and planned a tour that met our needs. He accommodated both the birder and photographer in our group.

GV Tours http://www.gvtours.com did an excellent job for us in Dec 2012 when our cruise ship (along with 2 others!) all docked on Christmas Eve.

Gail and Veronica kept in touch via email for several days before our arrival letting us know where to meet, the weather forecast, etc. Our young guide was knowledgeable and literate; his English was good (as it should be since he was starting out as an ESL instructor!).

Gail met us at the pier exactly where he said to be and ensured we got on the correct bus with our guide. We say them again at lunch; had a little doubt when driving up to the restaurant, but the food and service were superb.

Highly recommend!!!!

We just had a wonderful tour with www.puertomontt-excursiones.com. The owner Denis is a great guide! He promptly met us at the cruise terminal and had a wonderful day planned for us. He is exceptionally knowledgable about the area and his English is very good We had an impromptu delicious lunch which was a real treat during the day. The sights were spectacular and well worth the 6 hours we spent with Denis. He is very accommodating to every request. We are happy to refer him to anyone visiting Puerto Montt

The bus terminal is about 400 m from where you will be docking heading into the center of town, there you can catch a local bus "micro" they leave every 10-15 minutes and cost about 600 clp each way just over a dollar Puerto Varas is about a 25 minute journey can be easily be explored on foot, you can also purchase from the lake side an excursion on the lake.If you use a local tour company you will be paying about $200 per person for a tour that you can organise your self for a fraction of the price
