Currency Exchange Questions

It has been reported in this forum that ATMs in Rio's International Airport (GIG) should not be used due to various scams perpetrated there. I've seen no such reports for Sao Paulo (GRU), so is it safe to assume that ATMs there are OK to use?

I've also seen reports here about Brazilian ATMs not accepting foreign ATM cards - how widespread is this problem? Are some banks' ATMs better than others in this regard?

Finally, should I need to exchange cash (USD) in Rio, what are the best places to go to?

Thanks in advance.

1. Re: Currency Exchange Questions

The problem comes and goes.

It is pretty variable.

Sometimes we have some terminals out due to technical problems (as everywhere else in the world) ;-) but generally the problems are solved pretty quickly.

Scam in the airport terminals could have occured in the past but are pretty unlikely as all terminals are being watched 24/7 by cams.

You generally have the least problems with Banco do Brazil.

ALSO do not forget to check with your bank if your cards are activited for use in Brazil !!!!!

GIG ATM are as safe as GRU ones. ATM inside banks in the 3rd floor of GIG are the safest.

Our ATM, in general, accept foreign cards. It is not difficult to find one that is useful for you.

Cheers!

Thank you both for your replies.

Any recommendations for exchanging cash (USD) in Rio?
